Sending Files from S60 Phone to PC via Bluetooth

Have you ever tried sending files from your S60 phone to a PC via Bluetooth? Some of my friends are complaining that they cannot send any files to their PCs. They always get “Sending failed” message. Actually I hit the same problem for quite some time before I figured out how to do that.

I will try to explain how to send files using Windows XP SP2 Bluetooth stack. Note that different Bluetooth stacks may require different steps.
- Open the settings of your Bluetooth driver. You can do it by double clicking Bluetooth icon in the system tray of Windows XP SP2 and then select Options. Make sure that you turn the discovery on. Otherwise your S60 phone will not be able to find your PC. If you cannot find Bluetooth icon, then go to Control Panel | Bluetooth configuration.

- This step is really important. Many people don’t do that. That’s why they always get “Sending failed” message. Click Bluetooth in the system tray and select Receive a File menu.

- You will see a dialog saying it is waiting for connection from another device.

- Now you should be able to send files by selecting Options | Send | Via Bluetooth menu in any applications that support it, such as Gallery, File Manager, Contacts, etc.
