S60 Widget for Picasa Web Album

As you may know from last posting, Google has just released Web Picasa Album optimized for S60. Recently, I created a S60 Widget for Picasa Web Album. What does this widget do? It basically adds a new icon on your main menu so that you can launch Picasa Web Album easier. As simple as that.

You can only use it for devices that are compatible with S60 Widget, such as N78 and N95. See here for the list of supported devices.

I wonder how I install it. Whenever I try opening wgz file on my N95 it is opened by ZIP just as any *.zip archive. I tried opening it with Installer, it also didn’t help.

@Artem: Do you have the latest firmware on your N95? I believe that the older firmware does not support widget yet.

Not the very latest. I think it is one release old. Should upgrade I guess

@Artem: If I remember correctly, N95 supports widget since firmware v20; and N95 8GB since v15.

Hi Antony, this looks interesting! I’m glad you did this with our web app and I would like to try it out. I have firmware v21.0.016 installed on my N95 but the wgz file still opens in the notes application. Do you know how I can get the device to install the widget instead?

@Michael: How do you transfer the file to the device? If you type the URL in your browser or use bar code reader, then the device should recognize it automatically.

I was trying to find which firmwares support widget already, but cannot find this information.

I may be doing something basically stupid here, but I cannot log on to picaweb albums either via the straight google link nor this app ( which installed fine on my nokia n95.

to be fair, this is my first attempt at using mobile web ( via o2 ) so am new to the process.

heres\’ what happens… i click my browser( or the widget icon) on my phone. and enter the picasaweb path…
it says.. opening secure connection.content cannot be seen ? ( i answer YES)
it continues to download… says… leaving a secure web page. continue ?
i answer yes
screen goes blank
then says… opening a secure connection content etc etc… i answer yes,
which goes to leaving a secure web page.. continue
i answer yes….
ad inifintum.

what am i doing wrong ?
sensible answers please.
