Previously, I featured Google Search App for S60, which is a standalone client application for Google Search. Unfortunately, the shortcut in the idle menu works using Pencil key (a.k.a. Edit key) only. What’s the problem? Many S60 devices don’t have Pencil key any more. What to do then?
Don’t worry. You don’t even need Google Search App. What you need is your current Web browser. Don’t you know that you can launch the default Web browser by long pressing “0″ key? If you set Google Search as the default home page, you’ll get similar result as using Google Search App. Follow the step-by-step instructions below.
- Launch Web browser.
- Select Options | Settings | General menu.
- On the Access point section, select the access point you want to use.
- On the Home page section, enter http://m.google.com/m.
- Exit Web browser and you should be ready.
- On the idle screen, long press “0″ key and you’ll be directed to Google Search home page.

The pencil key on the N81 8gb is the hash key, or it serves much the same function anyway. Wonder if holding that key down will work?

@PhoneBoy: I tried on N82 and it doesn’t work. Pressing hash key will just switch the profile, between “General” and “Silent”.

yeah holding that key down on any n-series will switch between silent and default profile.
I dont own a phone without a penkey, but a question if i may ask, how to get the OVI and the Flickr and those icons on the active standbyscreen? (i have had the flickr icon there once but it went away and i have no idea how i got it there, well ofc it has something to do with sharing online but how to get it?

@Slipurson: You need to download Nokia Share Online 3.0 (http://europe.nokia.com/A4388352). You will then get flickr icon on the standby screen.

Hi Anthony,
This is of no connection with Google Search Application. You seem very knowleadgeable with Series 60/& NokIA Phones. I would like to know what are the components of Nokias (particularly the N95 classic) Lifetimer. I understand that it indicates time of calls made & received, mms and internet usage. Are these the only components that sum up to the Lifetimer? If not what are the others?
Secondly what is the process in which to compute for the life timer using the only the device (with out the basis of you phone bill). Your answer to my query would really help me answer the question of a customer. Thank you so much!!

@BB: You are right. This is just an alternative to Google Search App, i.e. if you want to have a shortcut but your device doesn’t have Pencil key.
About your second question, my understanding is that lifetimer calculates the talk time. How to map this to a phone bill would be a very tricky because each operator has different pricing. For example, they may have different price calling to landline and other mobile; they may have special price on the evening.
