About two weeks ago, I posted a posting on my other blog, Forum Nokia Blogs, about accelerometer on Nokia N95 Apparently, Nokia N95 has accelerometer built-in; but it was kept secret. Now after the API is opened to the public, many developers are trying to create cool applications. You can find some of them below.
Before you can install these applications; you need Accelerometer SISX file, which is available from Nokia Research Center web site. Download N95 RD Accelerometer Plug-in package and extract install N95AccelerometerPlugin.sis from the package. For your convenience, I have copied the SISX file to my blog as well (see link below).

NokMote - Selecting menu by moving your device. The final version will be released at the end of December as freeware. For now, you can only see the video
RotateMe - Have a screen rotation effect from portrait to landscape; and vice versa; just like what we have in iPhone.

Note that rotateMe does not distribute the signed version of the installation package. It means you have to sign it yourself. Unfortunately the certificate/key pair is currently available for developers only. For the end users, it would be difficult to get it sign. There were some discussions on the Internet to apply developer certificate on SymbianSigned.com; but it is likely that you won’t be approved if you are not developer.

I cant get this to work on a n95i the N95AccelerometerPlugin.sis is installed and works with th inclination app, but light saber app just flickers screen and returns to menu

Which version of light saber are you using? The early version of light saber only allows you to install on the phone memory.

@typekzdanovej: As I mentioned above, the developer released unsigned version of rotateMe. Unless you are developer, you won’t be able to sign it. It’s a bit pity that the developer has not release the signed version yet.

Hi ya all.. i am just curious why we need to download the N95AccelerometerPlugin.sis, i have installed rotate me and lightsaber plus a few other apps that use the Accelerometer in the N95, and all seem to work well with out installing the N95Accelerometer Plugin.

Hey don i got an unsigned version of nokmote.
Signed it and put it on my phone.
Im not impressed with the beta version as its really too buggy.
I tilt the phone down, and it keeps going in an endless down session.
the menu selection goes out of control and keeps looping around a bunch of icons.
and it has NO CONTROL at all.
The beta release is so buggy i took it off my phone. Nokmote may not be as good as its expected to be. Absolutly very less control.
I dont think i would use it on a day to day purpose.

Just open Settings, then turn off the vibrate function, then Options, LightSabre. it should turn on and work fine.

Anish: Remember to install the accelerometer package and the lightsaber application to the phone memory.
I know the acceleromer package will not work unless it’s sitting on the phone.

hi all
i have installed the accel sis file on my n95 successfully. I installed moving ball but it doesnt seem to work? I ran nokia SW updater and updated to the latest version of SW (v11.0.026)
I have installed both accel and moving ball to the phone memory also.

Signing might be needed depending on your application. In some cases, you can just go with self-signing.

To sign apps is really easy, so easy you could do it yourself belive it or not and creating an acount on symbien signed is simple to sign your app follow the instructions on this link hope this helps!

Could everyone PLEASE stop requesting signed apps be emailed to them. For the last time, you CANNOT share signed apps, they are IMEI dependent!! Why dont you actually go to the effort of signing them yourselves using the many, many links kind people have put on this page, it really isnt that difficult!! When signing up on symbiansigned you cannot use a commercial email address (i.e. yahoo, gmail, hotmail etc etc) you will have to use a work email or private email otherwise you cant join!

I have tried over 50 times to register with symbiansigned to no avail… I\\\’ve searched forum after forum and keep running into dead ends. I just cant seem to get the one application i want the most… RotateMe! out of all the apps, this is a must! I have the saber, but thats not as useful. I have tried every trick in the book trying to register with SymbianSigned, but the site hates me! Keeps giving me the same BS after filling all my info… cannot send have to email, blah blah!

You have to have the applications signed per individual phone by going to the symbiansigned.com website… however.. currently you can’t sign apps if you don’t have a publisher ID. unless the app is set up for open signing - such as Keynetik.com’s RockNScroll. RotateMe and Samirs other apps are not set for open signing and as such cannot be installed yet! I tried to sign RotateMe just now using open sign and got the error “FAILURE: Submitted .sis file uses a UID that is not allocated to the account holder matching this email address (0×200087b5 )” SO.. looks like we need to get samir to set up open signing or pay him a donation to sign it individually (I believe you can do that in his forum but i forgot the address!)

That lightsabre is crap cos you have to tilt the phone a lot to get it to really make the proper sound. If you move your wrists from left to right and whatever it doesn’t do a damn thing, so really its not very realistic and relies toooo much on tilting the phone as apposed to moving the phone as if it was a lightsabre. I removed it cos its crap

@mike: I think the developer hasn’t updated the application. You can solve the problem by changing the date of your phone back to somewhere in November 2007. After installing the application, just change the date back.

Hi guys,
got Rotate Me 2.1 Beta working fine, BUT cannot get Light Sabre to work at all - the icon is in Apps but it does nothing - I have uninstalled and reinstalled, rebooted phone etc, but its still not working
please help as its really frustrating!

I just updated my firmware to ver 20.0.015 and find I now have the same problem as you - lightsabre was working with older firmware version. RotateMe works fine as does accelerinvaders.
If you find out how to fix your lightsabre problem can you let me know.

The new firmware v20.0.016 lets you enable “auto” tilting on your n95 or not. With this feature, you no longer require RotateMe.
Plus lightsaber works on it too.

I have a Nokia n95 8gb Black and wondering when you will be ading more applications…btw i can sign softwares
so don\’t worry about posting unsigned ones and i can also get a .cer so that shouldn\’t be a problem either.

The signing is not a problem but now a days the new phones require having a certificate, so say bye to signing but hello to cer files

these are the instructions I have for accelerometer:
Installation:
1. Install N95AccelerometerPlugin.sis to your N95 device
2. Extract files:
- RDAccelerometer.h and RDAccelerometerObserver.h to your SDK’s \epoc32\include directory
- *.dso and *.lib files to your SDK’s \epoc32\release\armv5\LIB directory
I installed the N95AccelerometerPlugin.sis but I dont know how to do the 2. step. Please help me.
