One of the new features of Nokia PC Suite 6.84 is files synchronization. Before this new version is released, actually there are a couple of ways of doing files synchronization. A couple of months back, I have written about All About Synchronization that discussed Allway Sync ?n? Go. Recently I found another free third party application, SyncBack from 2BrightSparks, to do synchronization.

Now I am going to discuss about files synchronization in PC Suite 6.84. If you run the new PC Suite and select Synchronize, you should see a checkbox, called ?File and folder items?. Enable this checkbox to allow files synchronization.

Then on the Files and Folders tab, you can set the source and destination folders. Since, you can only specify one folder here, let?s utilize Briefcase feature from Windows. For those who don?t know about Briefcase in Windows, please read the following tutorial from Microsoft.

File Synchronization using Nokia PC Suite 6.84

What you need to do is:

  • Create a Briefcase folder on your Windows PC.
  • Copy any files you want to synchronize to this folder.
  • Run Synchronize application from PC Suite.
  • Click Synchronize button and you are ready to go. Note that you can also automate the synchronization each time you connect the device. To do it, simply click Advanced button in the General tab.

Tip: Add Briefcase folder to your Send To menu. This way, you can copy files to the Briefcase folder just by right clicking on it and select Send To menu.

I just received a new Nokia N95 two days ago. Yes, it?s quite late. Nokia N95 has been around for a couple of months and I just got a chance to play with it now. Well, I live in a country where no operator is selling Nokia Nseries. We have to buy Nseries either from outside the country or from the ?gray market?.

Anyway, on the first day, I had a problem with TV-Out. I connected my device to the TV and surprisingly the output is not as expected. The picture on the TV is black and white and it flickers a lot.

The problem was eventually caused by different television system, i.e. NTSC versus PAL. NTSC is an analog television used in North America, Japan and some Asian countries. PAL is many parts of the world, including many European and Asian countries.

In my case, I have a television that supports NTSC only; while my new N95 comes from Europe where PAL is the default setting. This problem can be easily solved because we can chance the output format of N95?s TV Out. To change it, go to Tools | Settings | General | Enhancement | TV-Out | TV system. Change the setting to the one that matches your television.

There are many television models that support PAL and NTSC system; so you may not need to change anything.

Y-Tasks is collection of development helper tools. However, some advanced users may find it useful too. It consists of several plug-ins, i.e.:

  • Trace
  • Crash monitor
  • Applications and tasks
  • File types
  • Fonts
  • Memory status
  • Processes and threads

Each of the plug-in can be installed individually. So, you don?t need to install all of them if you don?t need any of the plug-ins. I guess you know already the usage of these plug-ins from their names. For example, Applications and tasks displays the list of application and tasks running on our phone. You can also display detail information about applications or tasks, such as the UID, capability, stack size, etc.

Y-Tasks is developed by Jukka Silvennoinen a.k.a. symbianyucca a.k.a. Dr. Jukka. He is the developer of Y-Browser, one of the popular file manager for S60 3rd Edition. If you are participating in Nokia discussion board, you may also have heard his nickname many times.
