I have been using Last.fm as my social networking for music. I am pretty happy with their service except one thing, i.e. they don?t support S60 yet. I cannot scrobble my songs from my S60 device. For those who don?t know about scrobbling, here is an explanation from Last.fm web site.
Scrobbling a song means that when you listen to it, the name of the song is sent to Last.fm and added to your music profile?. Start scrobbling yourself, and see what artists you really listen to the most.
Last month, I visited Nokia Connection 2007 and saw a demo of MyStrands. They offer similar service to Last.fm with one additional feature, which is support to S60 platform.
What I like about MyStrands:
- Scrobbling works well on cellular network, such as GPRS and 3G, as well as WiFi.
- We can search for other users who are listening the same music.
- We can request for songs recommendations, which are based on our musical taste. They have technology that analyze people?s musical habit and taste.
What I don?t like about MyStrands:
- We have to use MyStrands music player. If we use the default S60 music player, the scrobbling does not work.
- It can only find music files located at \Sounds folder. MyStrands will not find music files in other folders.
- It still crashes quite often on my Nokia N95. Hope this will be fixed soon.
