Update (8-Feb-2008): Read also my latest posting, Which YouTube Application to Use?
In this third part, I would like to discuss about YouTube for mobile. It’s been a week since Google announced YouTube for mobile (http://m.youtube.com). It is a good move although there are still some limitations in this beta version. For example, not all videos available in the mobile version yet.
I didn’t write anything about YouTube mobile earlier simply because I had not been able to view any videos from my S60 phones. I keep getting timeout message each time I want to view YouTube video.
I?ll come back to this error message later. For those who don?t know how to access YouTube for mobile, firstly you have to go to your Web browser and then type in http://m.youtube.com. When you view a video, it is going to be played in Real Player.
Make sure that your Access Point setting on your Real Player is correct. To check it, launch Real Player and then select Options | Settings | Connection | Network | Default Access Point.
Back to my problem above with timeout message. This symptom can be reproduced if you are using WiFi only. Apparently, my firewall does not allow Real Player traffic, which is delivered in RTSP (Real-Time Streaming Protocol). The problem is that some firewalls do not allow RTSP traffic.
How to solve the problem?
- Configuring your server to allow Real Player traffic to your device. There is a comprehensive documentation at Real?s web site about firewall. Honestly, I haven’t managed to solve my problem using this approach. Well, I am not a networking expert?

- Another way (that works for me) is by connecting your S60 device directly to the Internet. This can be done by assigning the IP address of your S60 device into DMZ (Demilitarized Zone).

I guess that port forwarding will help. Select few ports and enter same range (for example, 50000-50010) to your device and to router. Also, make sure that your device gets always same IP. On most consumer “DSL/Cable/WiFi” routers you can do both.

Hmm it works ok using a wi-fi connection but won’t play any videos using 3G or GPRS.
I can view YouTube videos on the YouTube mobile (using mobile network) without any problems though.

Hi all, just experienced the problem but the instructions in this link worked for me:

Personally I used the port triggering function since you need to assign a static IP to our phone (dunno how it\’s done ;)) for port forwarding.
Hope you manage 2!
