Last week, Nokia announced Nokia Maps smart2go mapping and navigation platform available for free download. Currently it supports some of Nokia Nseries devices that run S60 3rd Edition. Although it was announced last week, the download link was available starting from today.
Nokia Maps
smart2gois a compact programme for your mobile that allows you to load maps from around the world. Discover interesting places with ease, highlight them and get the route.
Click here to download Nokia Maps and MapLoader
Basically Nokia Maps smart2go platform consists of two parts, i.e.
- Maps application that has to be installed on the device.
- MapLoader application. It is a PC application running on Windows operating system that allows us to download maps to memory card. Currently only North America and European countries are available. However, I assume that more and more countries will be added in the near future.
What can we do with Nokia Maps smart2go?
- Since it is a mapping and navigation application, you can use it with your GPS module to find route from one place to another. If you don’t have GPS module, you can still install it on your device and use it in “simulation” mode.
- You can also search for places of interest, such as restaurants, public transportation, shopping, hotel etc.
There are two important things to note here:
- Even though you can download maps to your memory card, you still need data-connection to
find route orsearch places. You may want to remember this especially if you don’t have flat-rate data plan. - The voice navigation system is not free. You have to subscribe it separately. If you don’t subscribe it, the route will only be displayed on the screen without voice.
Compatible devices: S60 3rd Edition, Nokia Nseries, Nokia Eseries.
Update (18-Feb-07): Thanks for mike from Nokia-gate5 for his clarification. Apparently, in the final version of smart2go, we can search POI (Places of Interests) without data connection. There will be a possibility to download voice navigation too. It’s really a good news for us.

Great post
will it support the E-series?
I’d like to have it on my E61
February 13th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
@azmi: That’s a good question. According to smart2go’s web site, it supports Nseries only. However, I don’t see a reason why it will not work on Eseries. I haven’t tried it though.

hey guys i installed in the smart2go application in my nokia n80ie and works great, yes you need unlimited plan data that i got from t-mobile for 4.99. so about the voice command system i tried to installed using t-zones and i got error, however when i got home this time i use the wifi and the voice command works great, i used the simulation mode, and works great… try to do that one..
February 13th, 2007 at 9:53 pm
hello guys i tried in my nokia n80ie and works great, about the voice command try to download using the wifi and not the regular internet from your phone. for me works , i have the voice command
February 14th, 2007 at 10:51 am
Hi Azmi — yes, the E61 is listed as one of the options. go to the download via PC page and choose E61
February 14th, 2007 at 3:54 pm
I installed smart2go in my Nokia E61 (v3.0633.09.04) and works great with a Sirf III gps receiver. Note that if you download maps into memorycard no data-connection is required (you can tell smart2go to never use internet connection), but I don’t tried to search places.
An interesting feature: E61 has an embedded navigator and odometer. If you have defined marks or places, smart2go uses it (and vice-versa), and new places can be defined without GPS, using downloaded maps.
February 14th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
@David: Thanks for the correction. I have corrected the posting.
I think we still need correction to search places. I tried to disable my network connection and it won’t find places, except airport.
February 15th, 2007 at 1:30 pm
Yes, connection is needed to search for services (hotels, restaurants…). Without connection only street and highlighted items (places with icons like gas stations, airports, trains…) could be located using search.
February 18th, 2007 at 9:39 am
when disconnected, the system finds all addresses in the maps that have been downloaded either via map loader or normal usage. also, it can calculate all routes covered by the curren map selection. when searching POIs, it searches the map as well, but currently, we do have the full set of POIs embedded with the map yet, so as noticed, server search delivers many more results than local search. we will correct this for the launch — i.e. put many more POIs into the map.
in the next version of the map loader, you should also be able to download the voice commands, the download speed should be much faster as well. in fact, it has been improved already.

@Mike: Thanks for the information. Good to have someone from Nokia-gate5 giving input here.

Some thoughs about this software:
a) It would be great if application had option to change the speed of simulation (quicker, slower, pause).
b) I found that on N93 \’Search by address\’ option always results \’Nothing found\’ (no matter as many fields you fill in; mandatory: city+country)
c) I\’m not using GPS currently, but when application starts in Poland it should show a center of Poland, not as now - center of Germany (I haven\’t installed maps of Germany because I don\’t need them).
I\’m using a SIM card of Polish GSM operator in Poland and it\’s easy under Symbian to read some information from card or cellular network (MCC/MNC) and to correctly position a map at a start without GPS and access to internet connection.
@Mike: If you want more info, you can contact me by email.
Best Regards,
jack
February 20th, 2007 at 6:55 am
i think it\’s good application to show current speed of movement…
February 20th, 2007 at 1:01 pm
@jack
correct, in future versions, we will use the city center of the capital rather than berlin -;)
the search may not work if your connection is not good enough and if you do not have maps loaded. the framework times out.
February 20th, 2007 at 2:25 pm
@jack
I think simulaton is only a “nice” feature but not necessary to have such speed functions (if it’s necessary, then the options menu will become much more difficult somehow). About the address search, I think once you have the map data locally, you will find something, or try to search some place using the international address (e.g. city name)
@Mike&jack
I guess they used Berlin because of some “historical reason”. Well, I’m symbian s60 developer too (though not a good one) because under 3rd edition sdk if you develop some application using Location API and run it under emulator, nokia loaded the nmea data from city Tampere in Finland as default or if you create a landmark with default position under emulator, the position would be somewhere in Tampere Finland, so I think, since maps was “born” in Berlin, they could do such way or at least since it’s a free application, they have the right to do that
How do you know that Maps used Berlin as city center?
February 20th, 2007 at 4:27 pm
Well, here in danmark the maploader dont work
If we download the program the maploader.exe-fil misses, also the ffff.??? it seems.
Maybe anyone have a link to another place where i can get the FULL program, many users are very konfused about this here in DK
Any help ?
P.S. sorry for bad english
February 21st, 2007 at 6:55 am
@mike
Thanks for the answers.
Are you guys thinking about changing somehow \’database of Maps\’ which currently relies on card\’s file system (a lot of small files)?
SD/MMC cards are formatted as FAT16 (changing to FAT32 doesn\’t make sense for many reasons); 28MB of data (ca. 3200 files) takes about 65Mb on card. I couldn\’t fall asleep this night, because I was trying to find good programmable solution to that - finally I\’ve got two completely alternative (they don\’t need more CPU&RAM)… but I\’ll wait for your answer.
@destiny
Setting starting point automatically as Berlin (situation: without GPS & without internet connection) has one drawback. Although I\’ve downloaded only Polish maps (and I\’m operating in this area), \’Searching by address\’ doesn\’t work (always \’Nothing found\’, you can try eg. \’Warsaw (Warszawa) + Poland\’ and it will not find a capital of Poland), but when I start to search a small city near Berlin - it finds it without problems (small part of German map is also available locally). I guess that if \’gps point\’ was set somewhere in Poland - everything in this country could be found. I hope that you now understand what I meant. I know that it will be fixed in next version

Thanks for this wonderful post..I have a Nokia E62. I installed Smart2Go and Nokia PC suite with Nokia Maploader on my Windows XP laptop. I have set my netowork settings of the device “Never” to connect internet since I have not subscribed. Then I connected the device to my laptop using the mini USB cable provided with the Cingular. When I try to open Smart2go in device it works fine and asks for maps, so I tried to download a map from Nokia maploader software, but I get “Please connect your device to your computer via USB using mass storage mode OR insert the memory card into card reader. Remember that you need to use the “Maps” applicaton atleast once with your device or memory card before using the Nokia MapLoader”. Dont know what to do…i dont have an external miniSD card but then even my XP recognizes that my connection is via USB and I had ensured that bluetooth of my device was off during this time. Can someone please help me?
February 21st, 2007 at 11:06 pm
@Vishnu: When you connect your phone to the PC via USB, usually there are some menu options, i.e. “PC Suite”, “Mass Storage” (sometimes called “Data Transfer”), etc. You have to select “Mass Storage”. If not available, you can go to Connectivity | Data Cable application and select Mass Storage. Hope this helps.
February 21st, 2007 at 11:19 pm
Hi Antony,
I get only 2 modes–>PC Suite and Data Transfer. I cant select Datatransfer since am yet to insert an external miniSD Card. Same issue while I try to configure it using the Data Cable application as suggested by you
Thanks for the help…any other suggestions, pls?
February 21st, 2007 at 11:21 pm
@Vishnu: IC. Unfortunately this solution works only when you have MiniSD only. I don’t think you can download map to the phone memory.
February 22nd, 2007 at 11:04 am
Hi, I have downloaded the application and it is wonderful, because i dont have a gps. Some little problems i found is that the GPS position that give the program when no GPS is connected is actually the place where the phone was bought. I am in Peru, but I bought the phone in the netherlands, and when i ask to give me the gps position, it continue positioning me in the netherlands with no way to change it. Any suggestion how to change the GPS position?
February 22nd, 2007 at 2:38 pm
Thanks for the post Antony, I\’ve tried to download the software onto my N80 and it works fine, but the License Manager that came with it has literally messed up my phone. After two days from installation, the phone stopped responding, requiring me to remove the battery in order to turn it on again. Upon startup, the system was freezing almost immediately. I had to browse the memory card from my PC and manually rename some exe files that were apparently getting executed automatically at boot. After that I managed to remove the License Manager cleanly from the phone\’s install manager and now everything is ok.
Needless to say, smart2go works perfectly without the License Manager unless you need to buy its extra services.
February 23rd, 2007 at 10:43 pm
hey willy to get the gps position …..mmmmmm.. you must get a gps!!.
February 23rd, 2007 at 10:48 pm
hey everyone i installed the software few days ago and i have been using it first without the gps, and i could get the simulation mode with voice. it worked good. now that i got my nokia gps the navigation part is excellent. some times takes till 10 second to connect your gps with the satellite, then it will give you your gps position. you can start routes and finding places. i download the map from nevada, Thailand and Hong Kong. hope get more maps soon with Peru or Lima. Lima… i am coming in June!!
February 24th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
@Willy Pradel
hmm, good question, the easiest thing (but might be not the cheap one): to get any external bluetooth GPS mouse, the difficult thing: to have some NMEA data from GPS in Peru or near your real location and then do a serial bluetooth connection with your device using any software which can send data to serial COM port (to simulate your pc or notebook with bluetooth as external GPS using that NMEA data).
February 26th, 2007 at 4:54 pm
How do I go about installing smart2go on an emulator.
I\’ve downloaded the s60 3rd edition SDK from Nokia, but am having trouble loading the software into the emulator.
What are the steps involved?
Rgds
Ned
February 26th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
@Ned: You won’t be able to install it on emulator because emulator uses different binary format than device.
February 26th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
@Antony - and the windows generic edition?
February 27th, 2007 at 12:46 am
@Ned: It would be possible to run on emulator if Nokia-gate5 releases smart2go for emulator. As far as I know there is no easy to convert from Symbian OS/ARM-binary to Windows/Intel-binary.

I got the windows generic 5 version running on the free emulator from Microsoft (which requires VS2005 install). It was.. involved
since I run Kubuntu.. which currently has issues with VMWare running windows installs.
February 28th, 2007 at 9:18 am
hmm.. i’ve got a bluetooth receiver (holux 236) but it doesnt seem to be recognised by the program. The same receiver works fine with Nav4all. Anyone has this problem?
March 1st, 2007 at 12:59 am
the application looks great. However I am having problems with the maps. The street names of South African cities are incorrect, some street names have blocks and funny characters. The gps position however seem to be fairly accurate.

I successfully installed smart2go onto my N73, and it works quite well even here in Cape Town, with my Globalsat BT-308 GPS. However, with Nokia v2.0628.0.0.1 firmware I had frequent freezes in the Maps application during GPS-assisted tracking, even though the GPS seemed to be fine & locked to satellites. I upgraded the N73 to the latest firmware yesterday morning, and yesterday afternoon tracking seemed fine on the way from work to home, but this morning it froze again. This freezing would happen for about 3-5 minutes. During this time the application menu still seems to respond to keypresses, but after a while the LCD would dim (even though the setting in Maps is to never dim the LCD) which might mean that the program is hanging. Anyone else getting such freezes during GPS-assisted tracking?
Also annoying is that BT remains enabled on the N73 after having shut down the Maps application.

Hi @Antony,
Thanks for help. I had installed Smart2Go and then loaded California maps. I have disabled my networks since I dont want to use net connection. Now how can I get to search locations. I am not using any GPS systems please help.
I dnt know if I have done anything wrong or if there is any other setting to get this going. Is there some licensing thing to register? I had tried to enter some CD Keys when it prompted for purchase but then skipped it.

Hello all. I have the application loaded and I am loving it. One problem I see is no way to identify which maps I have already downloaded. Is there a current way or future release that will allow me to browse miniSD card to see which maps have been downloaded? Also, will future release allow me to save a route after it has been planned? I prefer to get it set up and ready and then just be able to hit Navigate when I get in the car. That way I don\’t have to sit in the car for a while to get my route planned. It would be nice to be able to retrieve a saved route.
March 3rd, 2007 at 12:52 pm
Got it guys..it works. I have got the maps working on my Nokia E62. Following is the process:
a) Install Nokia PC Suite on your PC.
b) Get your bluetooth connecton or USB Connection b/w PC and Nokia E62 device going.
c) Download and install Smart2Go
d) Disconnect the bluetooth connection and connect through USB Cable and switch your connection mode to “Data Transfer”.
d) Download and install the Smart2Go Maps.
d)Select the map you wish to download. At this time you still need to use the USB as the means of communication, else it wont work. If you keep getting that vague error which says you need to connect USB cable, try to restart your device once, disconnect and reconnect thro USB. This worked for me.
It works! I am using this without connecting to the net i.e. I have set my device connection to net as “Never”. This gives you some problems because:
a) Voice commands for navigation wont work because it needs internet i suppose.
b) Searching of places is tough. I tried to Search by name giving “Los” for Los angeles in a CA map. It never found..so using “*” and “#” I had to zoom-in/out to reach specific locations and save them as landmarks. Search by address wont work.
c)Locating “Amusement parks” and certain places of interest works but not up to mark. For e.g. disneyland park in anahiem was not found thro this though I was in a street next to Disneyland park.
d) I dont know how old these maps are but looks ok for me.
I would request the smart2go group to also provide the voice coammand download as part of Maps that could help a long way. Rest am very impressed by the software. You can get this for no cost which is excellent.
March 4th, 2007 at 10:10 pm
Hi,
Has anyone succeed in loading the map onto a 2Gb Mini-SD? I am doing what I suppose to do but the Maploader either doesn\’t recognize my card (in Data Xfer mode) or saw that there were only 12Mb left on the SD. The Memory card option shows that there was 1.9Gb left.
March 5th, 2007 at 12:56 am
Hi Jacques,
One question. are the street name correct on your maps
I am using an Imate jasjar the steet name, are not correct.,maybe i am not doing something right
March 5th, 2007 at 8:40 am
Vong Xu,
I am using an E61 with 2gb miniSD and have had no problems using maploader or maps. If you use a card reader without the phone, how much space does it show remaining?
March 6th, 2007 at 3:24 am
Hi ahmed vorajee,
Yes so far the street names do look right to me, here in Cape Town area. Tried to search a known streetname but did not find it, I need to figure out how this thing would search street names.
March 8th, 2007 at 3:18 am
Hi Jacques
reloaded the maps now it seem to be correct. upgraded to navigation on my imate jasjar….found that the phone freezes when navigating…. this is frustrating…When it did work the application and maps not bad i must say…. yes there are small problems like finding steet names ..with me to
March 8th, 2007 at 4:07 am
Hi ahmed vorajee,
Maybe you should upgrade your phone to its latest firmware version (maybe you’ve already done that?). When I upgraded mine, the freezing does not seem to happen that often anymore, but maybe it is a coincidence, there could be latent bugs in the smart2go application…
March 12th, 2007 at 4:10 am
Thanks for a really good looking gps solution! I have a nokia n93 with the latest firmware and Route 66 Mobile 7 gps package, and the gps bluetooth receiver works really well with the smart2go software here in Oslo, Norway. The graphics are really good. A small quirk: During simulation with overview, the map follows all the arrow’s abrupt turns. And the price for navigation is a bit steep. Keep up the good work!
March 13th, 2007 at 9:17 am
Nokia MapLoader incorrect displays size of Ukraine map. Nokia MapLoader shows size of Ukraine map 7.1 Mb, but real downloaded data is 24,9 MB.
Also, after few minutes of downloading “Remaining download time” has negative value, for example: -9 minutes -41 seconds. This value increased: -9 minutes…, -11 minutes…
March 15th, 2007 at 7:01 am
Just a question,
Its told that S60 3rd Edition is needed. Im a newbie. Will my Nokia 3230 support this software?
March 15th, 2007 at 8:34 am
@Cem: Unfortunately 3230 is not a S60 3rd Edition devices. You can check it here, http://www.s60.com/life/s60phones/browseDevices.do.
March 15th, 2007 at 11:43 pm
Just sharing my experience.
i tried this software about a month ago when it first came out. After a few days playing with it and downloaded some maps, the software suddenly refused to load and my 1GB SD is dead. Bought another 2 GB SD, installed software, play with online map, and today found out that the online map directory is corrupted.
has anybody experienced the same thing ?
March 19th, 2007 at 4:04 am
I installed a Sandisk 512MB miniSD card in my N73 phone. I tried to download maps onto it using a laptop and the Maploader application. There is actually about 450MB freespace on the miniSD but the Maploader indicates this as 240MB freespace…I have yet to download some maps to the miniSD…
March 19th, 2007 at 5:32 am
Is there any particular ports/website that maploader uses? I\’ve just tried running this and the application stops on loading saying the connection to the server has been interrupted and the application doesn\’t load so I can\’t look at any settings within it.
There doesn\’t look to be any help on maploader yet though - I think a lot of us will be using it given the data tariffs and would appreciate some docs?
This looks a good application in principle, I\’m intrigued to compare it to my TomTom on my old 6600…
March 20th, 2007 at 1:28 am
Diane, it seems the Maploader application is not very well documented, and the installation directory don\\\\\\\’t have any logfiles etc. in which to check on progress. I am again trying to download some maps onto my miniSD, but progress is very slow. At least I seem to be connecting to the server, 3.5% downloaded so far, but will see if eventually I have success.
March 20th, 2007 at 4:41 am
Just managed to download maps for South Africa onto my 512MB miniSD for my Nokia N73. The maps seem quite complete and accurate. I had no problems using Maploader. Currently busy downloading some maps for Italy/France in preparation for our vacation by road in June.
March 20th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
I have managed to get it working with the Nokia E65 and iBT-GPS module (from ebay) and it all works great. I have test driven it today and it follows the map really quickly.
The only problem I had is that the maploader software did not recognise the USB cable so I had to load the maps directly onto the micro SD card.
Thinking of upgrading to the \
March 21st, 2007 at 5:17 am
I’ll post this on the wish list link on the website, but I think it really needs the ability to keep the backlight on - You can’t view the screen in a car if the light goes off - I run TomTom 5 on an old 6600 with the backlight always on (and plugged into my charger) otherwise I couldn’t use it.
I’ve downloaded the UK maps OK now, but it only seems to recognise up to a 1gb of my day old new 2gb card. Another one for the website.
March 22nd, 2007 at 3:02 am
he guys,
Have a problem with my N73.
Installed the latest firmware. downloaded maps, bought the navigation license:
everything works, except one thing. When I go to nagivation, the screen goes black, and goes back after 20 seconds to the main menu of the phone. OR screen just instantly goes back to the menu.
any ideas?
March 22nd, 2007 at 9:05 am
Scubaboy, I also tried downloading the maps via USB but gave up on that - I plug the miniSD into my laptop using the supplied miniSD-to-SD adapter, works great.
Diane, there is an option on the smart2go software, under Settings/General you have the option of keeping the backlight on all the time. Works for me…
mark, you have a strange one there…! I had some freezing of smart2go on old firmware on my N73, but after a firmware upgrade to 3.0704.1.0.1 everything is going very well - at least no startup problems. I can only recommend uninstalling the smart2go application, deleting the installation file, re-installing the file off PC Suite (maybe even downloading a new installation file off the smart2go website first) and installing the file again. Maybe try all of this without the navigation license, and take it from there…I am not using the navigation license (yet).
March 26th, 2007 at 12:03 pm
Hey guys,
I have a problem with smart2go on my N80; Got the latest firmware for the N80, 2GB miniSD, smart2go installed on my phone memory and bought a navigation license. Most of smart2go works fine, but when i start the navigation after configure the route smart2go crash and my N80 reboot…
Any ideas?
March 27th, 2007 at 12:36 am
Rens:
Uninstall the application, delete the installation files, reinstall the application…good luck!
March 27th, 2007 at 12:43 am
Tried navigation the other day, was surprised that I had to pay for it, I was under the impression that only voice-assisted navigation is priced, i.e. tracking-supported navigation is free? What is the typical cost of navigation?
March 27th, 2007 at 2:35 am
Jacques:
Thanks for your help but it do\’nt fix the problem
Deleted the smart2go_beta_S60-1.SISX file from the phone memory (Data\\Installs\\) en reinstall Smart2go…but still the same problem when i try to navigate
Any other ideas?
March 28th, 2007 at 4:35 am
Rens:
Remove the memory card and reinstall it again, inside the phone memory. Download local maps into phone memory & test navigation again (oh but wait, maybe you’ll then lose the navigation license that you’ve purchased already?)
March 28th, 2007 at 7:03 am
Jacques:
Hmm, still the same problem. I wait for the “not beta” release….
March 29th, 2007 at 2:40 am
Rens, maybe other N80 users on this forum could assist…and I guess you’ve already Googled N80 & snart2go, looking for answers…
April 1st, 2007 at 9:21 am
hey marco thought voice command was a upgraded feature did you get this free.I have nokia n80ie voice does not work.
April 2nd, 2007 at 7:37 am
Hi,
I\’ve problems downloading voice guides. The first time I was downloading the voice file the session was interrupted because my battery went low. Now, every time I\’m trying to download the file again the phone(n73)crashes. I\’ve reinstalled - the problem still persist.
Does someone know where this file is?
I\’ll probably have to remove it manually.
Thanks

Did someone use Maploader on E65 via PC and Micro SD card?
April 3rd, 2007 at 10:52 pm
I am using a 512MB Sandisk miniSD card for my N73, and use Maploader to download maps onto it. However, Maploader only sees 240MB free space instead of 512MB. I tried to ‘fool’ Maploader into seeing an empty 1GB USB stick (after I’ve copied the basic files Nokia into it) and still Maploader only sees 240MB free on the USB stick? Anyone else having similar problems?
April 9th, 2007 at 5:54 am
@Jacques: I use a 2Gb Kingston memorycard in my N80, since i updated tot the latest firmware yesterday Maploader sees only 980Mb of the total available 1800Mb.
I still got the problem with navigation and crashes on my N80. I think that the license manager is the problem. I also send a lot of issues to Smart2Go by using the Feedback link on the site, maybe the will fix it in the next release…
April 10th, 2007 at 5:16 am
Hi Rens, thanks for the info. Possibly the freespace estimate takes into consideration decompression of map files downloaded to the memory card…
As for feedback on smart2go website, it has been awfully quiet w.r.t. new updates being made available on their website…

Loaded Maploader on my PC, but I can\’t seem to get Maploader to recognize the unit via USB connection (Activesync), nor can I get my 4gig SD card to be recognized (even though my pc recognizes the SD card). What\’s the \’extra\’ option the PDF file mentions? When running Smart2go, all I get are the \’Find Destination\’ & \’Option\’ tabs, but no \’Extras\’. When I try and do navigation, it\’ll tell me that I need to purchase, when I agree, all it does is take me to a one way setup screen–where the only way to go is back…ideas?

Maximum free space reported by maploader is determined by the setting
Options->settings->network->Max memory card use (%)

people, regarding the shortness in sd memory is because in the smart2go app you can set a slider for how much SD the program will use ….. start smart2go, options then network (Max memory card use)

@Adrian: The current MapLoader works on Windows only.

Just loaded the latest version on an E61. Using it in the non GPRS mode with the Map files loaded on the memory card. After about an hour of navigation the phone resets. About 15-30 minutes after exiting the app the phone freezes. This happened 3 times during the the 3 day trial period.

I have a N73 Music edition and no maps are showing on the phone even though i\’ve uploaded maps through pc. I have no internet connection on the phone available. I load the maps application in the phone and no maps will show. Do I need a internet connection?

@Wiz: You shouldn’t need an Internet connection to show the map. You have to download (side-loading) the map from your PC first using “Nokia Maps Loader”. It is a PC application running on Windows. Please visit this page to download it, http://europe.nokia.com/A4509291

I have uploaded it using this application but the maps won’t show, I just get a blank map on my phone. I’ve tried uploading different maps but i’ve had no luck. They are always blank. I’m uploading them to 2gb mini sd which came with the phone. Everything seems to upload fine, but nothing will show.
Any ideas?

I have got the nokia maps working on E62.I bought a GPS receiver and E62 connects and picks up location using bluetooth connection. But here is a problem:
- When I try to use the Start Navigation option, it wants me to purchase the software. Isnt there any alternative?
- I am not connected to internet and dont want to use the internet package on my mobile phone which is costly. Please help me if you have any answers.
Another thing I noticed is the mobile heats up quite a bit..is it ok? How long have you used this…could this be a problem?

@Vishnu: You don’t actually need to buy the software. The only case that you would need to purchase a license is when you need voice navigation. You can download the maps for free using Nokia Maps Uploader (http://europe.nokia.com/A4509271)

Nokia Map Loader only works on Windows, needs .net framework, and if you add a new map the map loader deletes all your existing maps so you\’ll have to download them all over again.
But you don\’t need Nokia Map Loader! http://nokiamaps.moo.no links to all maps on Nokia\’s smart2go server. Works with any browser on any operating system, including Mac and Linux. No need to install anything on your computer, so it works when you\’re in a hotel, school, at work, or in an internet cafe.
If your phone talks WiFi or 3G you can add and update maps from your phone\’s web browser without even touching a computer.
