January 2007

Actually, I want to write about MobiPocket Reader (a.k.a. MobiReader) since a couple of months ago. This is a free e-book reader from Amazon. Why do I decide to feature MobiPocket Reader this week? The reason is because one of my favorite e-book, i.e. Trivopaedia, has just been updated.

MobiPocket Reader supports several different platforms. One of them is, of course, S60. You can download the reader for S60 freely from the link below. Note that although the reader is free, many of the e-books are not free. There are, however, some free e-books that I will discuss on my next posting.

Besides the S60 version, I would also recommend to download MobiPocket Reader for Windows PC. Why? The reason is because you can organize your e-books from your PC. You can always synchronize the contents on your PC to your phone easily. Furthermore, you can also subscribe news and RSS from the Windows PC version and then synchronize them to your S60 phone.

Update (24-Feb-2007): A new version of Mobipocket Reader, i.e. version 6, has been released.

I believe many of us are waiting for Skype client for S60. Unfortunately, it hasn’t happened until I write this posting. What should we do? There are some solutions that allow us to make phone call via Skype, such as EQO, Mig33 and SoonR. Unfortunately, all of them need “PC part”. It means you need Skype that is always running on your PC.

Recently, iSkoot released an application that allows us to make Skype call without “PC part”. Unfortunately, not all S60 phones are supported at the moment (check a list of supported S60 phones at the end of this posting). Another limitation is the number of supported countries. Not all countries are supported at the moment.

How does iSkoot works?

How does iSkoot works? When you make a phone call via iSkoot application, your phone communicates with iSkoot’s server. The communication is done via normal voice call; it means you have to pay for air time. The iSkoot’s server then connects your call using Skype’s telephony service. Note you need to pay your SkypeOut minutes too.

RingNokia.com is a blog Stefan Constantinescu. If you visit Stefan’s blog, you will notice an interesting description about him, “Watching that little Finnish company sleep… with night vision goggles”.

This blog discusses about any Nokia products, but you will find many of them are related to S60 too. They include news, applications, ideas and tips. He has proposed some improvement suggestions for S60, which are very interesting too.
