I have just featured a freeware application, called MobiPocket Reader, which is a free e-book from Amazon. As I mentioned earlier, many of the e-books are not free. However, there are some that are still free. Here are some of them.
Trivopaedia
Trivopaedia is one of my favorite e-books. It is the ultimate encyclopedia of useful trivia, features a mountain of information, including airline codes, paper weights and sizes, Oscars, periodic table, wonders of the world, ….

Bible
I have discussed this issue on my previous posting, Reading Bible on S60 Phone.
Project Gutenberg
For you who don’t know about Project Gutenberg:
Project Gutenberg is the first and largest single collection of free electronic books, or eBooks. Michael Hart, founder of Project Gutenberg, invented eBooks in 1971 and continues to inspire the creation of eBooks and related technologies today.
There are thousand of free e-books on Project Gutenberg web site. Unfortunately, they are normally not in MobiPocket Reader format. However, you can convert them using MobiPocket Creator.

The screenshots below show one of the free e-books from Project Gutenberg, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, which I converted to MobiPocket format (.prc).

Compatible devices: S60 1st, 2nd, 3rd Edition, Nokia Nseries, Eseries.

Thanks. I’ve had MobiReader on my N73 for a few weeks now and really like its functionality.
I was also quite excited by the Trivopedia link and tried to download from my mobile when I read this post this morning. It downloaded fine but my N73 then decides to open it in “Notes” which obviously produces garbage. I don’t know how I can change the file type association so that it opens it in MobiReader. Notes did allow me to “Save” the file but I have no idea where it placed it. Using the “Find” option under “File Manager” and searching “.prc” also didn’t turn up the file. I also found no way to save the Trivopedia.prc file to a specified location on my N73, i.e. no way to replicate the right-click “save target as…” functionality I’m accustomed to from my PC browser.
Can anyone give me any tips please? I would just like to be able to save the Trivopedia.prc file to my N73 without having to download it on my PC first.
Thanks
Tobias

@Tobias: That’s a good question. The easiest way is, of course, download Trivopaedia to your PC first. Then use PC Suite to transfer it to your phone.
I haven’t really tried to download it from mobile phone.

Hi All,
Thanks for mentioning our software.
About free ebooks, Mobipocket also offers a specific section at http://www.mobipocket.com/freebooks/
You will find many public domain titles already converted in the Mobipocket format. These books can be downloaded for free.
Enjoy,

@shikhar: If you use MobiPocket on the PC, you should be able to choose the file and then select “Send” menu to send it to your device.

For those who don\’t know - You can create an Ebooks folder in the phone memory or Memory card of your S60 phone. Then you can paste Text files in the Ebooks folder and read TEXT files(TEXT format ebooks) as well from Mobipocket reader.
Gutenberg and Memoware are good websites for free Ebooks.
