Featured Freeware - iSkoot - Make Phone Call via Skype
Posted by Antony Pranata under Featured FreewareI believe many of us are waiting for Skype client for S60. Unfortunately, it hasn’t happened until I write this posting. What should we do? There are some solutions that allow us to make phone call via Skype, such as EQO, Mig33 and SoonR. Unfortunately, all of them need “PC part”. It means you need Skype that is always running on your PC.
Recently, iSkoot released an application that allows us to make Skype call without “PC part”. Unfortunately, not all S60 phones are supported at the moment (check a list of supported S60 phones at the end of this posting). Another limitation is the number of supported countries. Not all countries are supported at the moment.
How does iSkoot works? When you make a phone call via iSkoot application, your phone communicates with iSkoot’s server. The communication is done via normal voice call; it means you have to pay for air time. The iSkoot’s server then connects your call using Skype’s telephony service. Note you need to pay your SkypeOut minutes too.
Compatible devices: Nokia 6600, 6680, 6682, N73, N80, E61, E62.

Another limitation is that when it doesn’t work, as it doesn’t for me in Norway, support is either non-existant or severely overworked..

Seems weird… I downloaded the iSkoot app for my e61 and installed it. Since the e61 has WiFI capabilities, when running the app, it asked me if I wanted to use either my home network via wWiFi or my GPRS (T-zones) connection. I selected via WiFI and it did sign me into Skype. I even tried dialing and seems like it works (no one answered on the phone I called, though). I will keep you posted about this, since it is really great not using your regular airtime to use iSkoot.
Peace,

Nowadays there is a lot of IM application for mobile phone. I have try out turbo MSN, etc.
Up to now, I find out that there is a good application to share with you guys here. Anyone heard of mig33? The application allows us to use Instant Messenger [Yahoo, MSN, and AOL], cheap calls, SMS and chat room. You can have a try on the application at www.mig33.com
Other than that, the application is free to download. There will be only charges for GPRS usage [Telco charge] and mig33 will only charge for voice calls and SMS only. Others like chat room and IM are all free.
After I notice about this application, I have deleted all my previous IM because I prefer to use this. Everything builds in one application. That’s sound great.

Fring is the answer.
not “pc part” required.
