Tutorial[4] Comments
Some of you, who read my other blog, Antony’s Mobile Blog, may feel de-javu. Yes… this tip, Viewing Exif Information from JPEG Images, is actually an old posting from my other blog. I decided to write the same posting here because I just realized that Nokia N73 is the most popular camera phones on Flickr. If you don’t know what I am talking about, please visit Flickr’s Camera Finder page.

Some of you may ask, how does Flickr publish this statistics? How does Flickr know which camera model a photo is taken from? The answer to this question is Exif. Here is an explanation of Exif from Wikipedia:
Exchangeable image file format (official abbreviation Exif, not EXIF) is a specification for the image file format used by digital cameras. The specification uses the existing JPEG, TIFF Rev. 6.0, and RIFF WAVE file formats, with the addition of specific metadata tags. It is not supported in JPEG 2000 or PNG.
Basically, Exif is metadata embedded into images captured with digital cameras, including camera phones. Not only camera model, Exif stores many other parameters, such as focal length, exposure time, aperture value and many more.
We can also view Exif information from our PC. There are many photo management software, such as Google’s Picasa, and image viewer software, such as IrfanView (with additional plug-in), that are able to display Exif information. Windows Explorer is able to display Exif information too (just right click the file name and select Properties menu).
The following screenshot shows Exif information from a picture taken with Nokia N73. Just for your information, I use Picasa to display Exif information. You can display Exif information by right click the picture on Picasa and select Properties menu.

Compatible devices: S60 1st, 2nd, 3rd Edition, Nokia Nseries, Nokia Eseries.

Blog Admin[2] Comments
Recently I upgraded my blog’s engine from WordPress 2.0.7 to WordPress 2.1. The upgrade process went smoothly. Unfortunately, I have a problem with my blogroll. It seems there is a change in WordPress 2.1 that causes my blogroll doesn’t work any more.
I am sorry to all of you whose the sites/blogs listed on S60Tips.com. I have to disable my blogroll at the moment. I hope to resolve the problem as soon as possible (hopefully within the next 24 hours). At least, I have found a posting from another blogger how to fix the problem (see link below).

Update (28-Jan-2007): Problems is solved! Apparently, there is a problem with get_links_list() function. The function has not been deprecated, but somehow it doesn’t work in my theme. After changing get_links_list() to a new function introduced in WordPress 2.1, wp_list_bookmarks(), my blogroll works again.
Update (29-Jan-2007): It looks like the problem is not gone yet. My blogroll sometimes disappears completely. I am still investigating this issue. Is there any WordPress guru here?
Update (31-Jan-2007): It seems the problem has been solved now. What I did is moving my blogroll to the top of side bar (see right side). I have been monitoring my blogroll in the last two days, and it looks okay now. What a strange behavior.

Third Party Apps[15] Comments
I have just featured a freeware application, called MobiPocket Reader, which is a free e-book from Amazon. As I mentioned earlier, many of the e-books are not free. However, there are some that are still free. Here are some of them.
Trivopaedia
Trivopaedia is one of my favorite e-books. It is the ultimate encyclopedia of useful trivia, features a mountain of information, including airline codes, paper weights and sizes, Oscars, periodic table, wonders of the world, ….

Bible
I have discussed this issue on my previous posting, Reading Bible on S60 Phone.

Project Gutenberg
For you who don’t know about Project Gutenberg:
Project Gutenberg is the first and largest single collection of free electronic books, or eBooks. Michael Hart, founder of Project Gutenberg, invented eBooks in 1971 and continues to inspire the creation of eBooks and related technologies today.
There are thousand of free e-books on Project Gutenberg web site. Unfortunately, they are normally not in MobiPocket Reader format. However, you can convert them using MobiPocket Creator.

The screenshots below show one of the free e-books from Project Gutenberg, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, which I converted to MobiPocket format (.prc).
