Copy and paste is a common feature that we use in Windows. Don’t you know that we have the same feature in our S60 phones? We can copy text from one application, such as Notes, and paste it to another application, such as Messaging.

How can we do copy-and-paste in S60 phones?
- Open the application the contains that text you want to copy. In the example above, I use Notes application.
- Select the text by pressing and holding Edit key (
) and then pressing up/right/down/left key. Note that you need to hold Edit key for about 1 second before you can select the text. Select Copy to copy your text. - Open the application that you want to text to be pasted into. Once again, press and hold Edit key until you see Paste menu. Select Paste to paste your text.

Hhmm, I think you must first select the text you want to copy, before you press the copy text to copy it, or does it do that by itself?

Oh yes, of course, you have to select the text first. It was my mistake.
I have updated the posting.

I think you first press the edit key, then select the text with the joystick and then press the copy selection.
Sorry to nic-pick, but you still didn’t tell how you selected the text..

No problem. It’s good to have comments from all of you.
I have corrected the steps to copy and paste the text.

Hi, I’ll add one “tip” related to E61: at first I did wonder how cut&paste is implemented with qwerty and tried all kinds of S60ish combinations. And as always, solution was most obvious one. After selectin text (with shift+joystic) just press ctrl+c and ctrl+v etc as used in pc/communicator etc.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I don’t have E61 because it is not launched yet. But it seems it is very obvious for full Qwerty keyboard.

How can we select the text when we are in a website. Normal text editor gives the choice of choosing text with cursor, but when we are in website we can not choose the text that makes copy paste not possible.
Does anyone find a way to choose text from a website?

@Mayank: You should be able to use Shift key on E61, instead of Edit key.

I am not sure if this will help you on your phone, but on my nokia e61i I am unable to copy and paste text in the web browser unless the text is in a text entry field or text area of a form. So I created a little website for myself, http://mobitol.com which allows me to enter a url and retrieve that website’s text into a text box so I can copy and paste it. It also gets html source code and can open new windows- two features left out of the browser. It might work for other Nokia phones as well.
Hope it helps!
